Sullivan Lake State Airport (09S) Metaline Falls, Washington

Sullivan Lake has a petrified forest below the surface which is visible through the crystal clear calm water.  The shoreline forest is rich with color and the scent of fresh pine fills the air.

Sullivan Lake Airport sits on the shore of Sullivan Lake. You can camp on the field; however, it is not as secluded as some places since there are "car” campgrounds on either side. They were not visible from the airstrip, but another pilot mentioned that it can be noisy at night when the car campgrounds are full. Some pilots bring their camping gear over to the car camping area and utilize the picnic tables and barbecue pits.

The airstrip has an easy approach over the lake, but is somewhat short (1765 feet) for some peoples standards.  The field is rough and may have gopher holes.  We only stayed for the afternoon and enjoyed the lake on a boat which we borrowed from a local.
